This thing starts out really strong as a psychological horror piece, setting up believable characters and family dynamics, getting all the drama right and conjuring up a deeply claustrophobic atmosphere. From there on, everything just goes downhill. Characters not only become more one-dimensional, but even their personalities seem to change whenever it's convenient to the overall plot without any rhyme or reason just as things start happening randomly, the drama becomes increasingly contrived and everything just devolves into a tonally inconsistent, undefined pastiche of genre-tropes that can't be saved even by the solid to very good performances of the films two leads as the script just can't keep up, even the dialog becoming just plain ridiculous at some points. Kinda infuriating, the wasted potential here, leaving not just a badly constructed, but ultimately pointless and empty genre excercise.
