a review of 银色星球

Andrzej Żuławski's unfinished science fiction epic is often frustrating to watch, the plot difficult to follow and i'm unsure if the missing footage replaced by b-roll with voice-over narration actually worsens or improves the messy situation.
While far from perfect in its eventual form, this is ultimately quite rewarding and a one-of-a-kind experience for sure, way ahead of its time in many aspects like the first half (remember this was actually shot in the late '70s) making use of a found footage structure and perspective a few years before it would actually become a common trope in horror films.
It's one of those films out of the former soviet bloc giving a fascinating glimpse into an alternate timeline, showing what might've happened if cinema had taken a radically different path and developed a markedly different cinematic language very much of its own.
