Your Name. (2016)Kimi no na wa's high IMDb rating attracted my interest. The visuals are gorgeous. The atmospheric scenery, larded with dreamy light effects such as lens flares in countless shapes, felt like viewing a beautiful painting in motion. But visuals aren't everything. The story gradually sinks into a melodrama overdose, and starts dragging. The continuous light-hearted, romantic piano score in the background of nearly every scene also started to irritate me. In the course of Kimi no na wa I started longing for the end, which turned out to be a fairly abrupt anticlimax after waiting so long for the main characters to be (re)united. When it comes to an anime with a warm, humane, emotional spirit, I was much more moved by Wolf Children.
