Boyz ‘n the Hood had been on my watchlist for many years. Having consciously experienced the time when it came out, the zeitgeist felt familiar to me, although I only knew about the sad things happening in the ghettos from a large distance. I particularly admired the performances of Cuba Gooding Jr. and Laurence Fishburne. It’s very sad that the situation hasn’t changed much since 1991, but I sincerely hope it will one day.
