a review of 患难兄弟情

Paddleton (2019)Paddleton is a disarming, at times dryly funny, but also emotionally charged film about euthanasia. I'm always a sucker for Mark Duplass. No matter what role he's playing, he always seems to be himself. On top of that, he and his brother Jay are fine filmmakers too. Paddleton didn't move me as much as I thought it would though. Maybe because the characters and their antics are mostly pretty blasé and boring, particularly Ray Romano's dull, rambling upstairs neighbor character. I just missed a certain appealing emotional spark in the chemistry between the characters. The euthanasia moment was impressive though, and I think it's good that the subject matter is pulled out of the taboo that still surrounds it.
