The Crippled Masters (1979)I feel similarly to this as I do about Freaks (1932) in that, yeah it's definitely an exploitation film, I am not disputing that. But we have two *actually disabled* actors as the leads, and they are talented martial artists. Disabled people almost never get to play themselves — the two leads are awesome and it's too bad this appears to be their only film. i like the montage of them training together and watching them get revenge. It has basically the same plot as a lot of kung fu films, but with the element of disability inside it. In my opinion, the only reason this is considered more shocking than other films of this genre is that there are actually disabled people in it, which I think warrants more consideration as to what feels wrong or shocking about it to the audience. Are you just having a knee jerk reaction? Do I wish there was better representation and plot than a movie like this this for disabled actors? Obviously. But it's pretty cool to see Jackie Conn and Frankie Shum showing their talent here. Otherwise it's a pretty fun martial arts film from the time and the dub I watched had the foley turned up to 11 which is always great. The back half is a little rushed and could have had a bit more breathing room, like they're training to fight the big bad guy, but the big bad guy is right there etc.
