Another one i’ve missed back in the day. And it sure was easy to miss, 2001 still being kind of your poor man’s 1999 when it comes to movies. This coming of age comedy can be seen both as a bittersweet farewell to and subtle critique of the 90’s brand of disaffected irony that helped late gen-x’ers and early millenials navigate said era of unprecedented consumerist excess, which in the films final stretch gives way to some amount of nuance, self-reflection and heartfelt, honest empathy.
