What's the word? Avant-garde? Surreal? Abstract? Psychedelic? You had me at "A"! This is a stunning piece of hungarian animation, the likes of which you're unlikely to find anywhere in "western" animation of its era, a completely unique experience. I'm pretty sure the current master of artsy off-the-beaten-path anime Masaaki Yuasa has studied this thing religiously while in turn, i wonder if the avantgarde anime classic Belladonna of Sadness (1973) served as an inspiration to this film on a mostly visual level. The whole "postapocalyptic wonderland" vibe then might just as well have spawned the equal parts naive, sad, whimsical and heroic worlds of Adventure Time.
