Nope - Review

There's no way to sugarcoat it really... this is very much a dumbed down, shallow version of Jordan Peele's unique vision - a blurry mess in terms of themes and messages that might just work despite all if it only was committed to merely being a straightforward horror film or an unpretentious Twilight Zone homage.

What we get though is more of a late '90s / early 2000s Roland Emmerich blockbuster (or... a small-scale version of that) in which every single character has their own "comedic sidekick" schtick while the film as a whole really struggles to comment on or add anything new to the source formula. Hell, the alien monster/spaceship thingy kinda seems pulled from the rightfully forgotten post-"Independence Day" sci-fi comedy Evolution (2001). So much for originality.

It might come down to my personal taste and my passionate dislike for the hollywood blockbuster schlock my pals made me endure in my teen years but this whole genre is simply among the things i'm having very little patience for two decades on and nostalgia porn has never been my jam anyway.
