a review of 电话惊魂

A somewhat frustrating noir flick. Conceptually brilliant but flawed in its writing and rather formulaic drama, the film is asking quite a lot from the viewer's suspension of disbelief. The final act gets really gripping though. The plot plays out kinda like a mix betweeen "Rear Window" and "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane", only that our tragic heroine here is an unlikable entitled rich Karen of the highest order (which is not to say the men around her were any better...). There's also a lot of Rashomon-style unreliable narration going on throughout.
