Manchester by the Sea (2016)

After reading all the praise I had high expectations of Manchester by the Sea. I had to get used to the slow pace during the first half hour, but then the film started to crawl under my skin. The drama works really well because everything is so believable. The level of realism reminded me of the films by the British director Ken Loach. It was a great move to let Matthew Broderick play the goody-two-shoes husband of a troubled character. It was a pleasant surprise to see him back. I think the young Lucas Hedges gave an impressively natural performance, alongside Casey Affleck.
