I didn't know what to expect from The Invitation. I expected something similar to the movie Coherence, which is also a low-budget film centered around a dinner party. I was afraid that The Invitation would have the same irritating, superficial characters as Coherence has in my humble opinion. I stopped watching Coherence after about half an hour or so. It just didn't convince me. But The Invitation pleasantly surprised me. I liked the brooding atmosphere, and the uncanny feeling the characters gave me throughout the film. It's one of those movies where you know there's something very wrong beneath the surface, and something can happen any moment, you just don't know what and when. The final twist was a really nice touch. I didn't see that one coming.
