The Swimmer (1968)

I knew little about The Swimmer when I started watching it. Just a global plot outline. The film takes intriguing turns as it progresses, and provides a nice satirical reflection of bored rich people. The twist was easily guessable in an early stage though, and I thought the end was a bit too melodramatic. Nevertheless, The Swimmer was a fascinating watch, larded with some nice experimental cinematography. In hindsight, The Swimmer felt like one of those dreams that starts joyful, like you're out with friends. Then suddenly you need to catch the last train, and can't find the right platform, and once you're in the train, it's so crowded, you need to push people aside to get out of it again. It gets worse and worse, until you wake up. Or, looking at it more cynically, The Swimmer is like life itself: it starts with sunshine, and ends with rain.
