Man on the Moon - Review

"Audience reacts to Andy Kaufman - The Movie"

I missed this one at the time of its original run. Although the film seems to have garnered a certain cult status, i don't really get it.

Yeah, it's quite enjoyable at times, but that's completely down to Jim Carrey's awesome channeling of Andy Kaufman, who was long dead and gone at this point, while i fail to see any artistic achievement of its own in this film - the writing and direction making for a biopic as lazy, bland and by-the-numbers as it gets. Its over-reliance on reaction shots i found just insulting to the audience, as if they needed a reminder where the laughs are. Both Kaufman and Carrey would have deserved a smarter, more original movie.
