a review of 狼屋
Now that was a unique experience - an animated psychological horror flick made with what appears to be a mix of stop-motion, model sets and paper mache stuff built from the ground up. The fractured memories and conflicted feelings of a cult surviver get manifested in a frame that's constantly being teared apart and reassembled in unpredictable ways, leaving the viewer as disoriented and uncertain as its protagonist. The way the constantly shapeshifting house represents her mental state makes this kind of a gothic horror flick as well, although on a purely conceptual rather than stylistic level.
