Thelma (2017)Every once in a while you experience a film that isn't just entertainment, but creeps under your skin, leaving an impression that's deeper than usual. To me, Thelma belongs to that category. Thelma is an atmospheric psychological thriller about a girl who starts experiencing seizures, and gradually discovers the cause and effect of the seizures. Thelma's cinematography is gorgeous in a subtle aesthetic way. Every scene feels very well-balanced and thought-out. The audio is also very effective, eliciting a disturbing undertone, as if a dark secret is constantly about to be revealed. I loved the slightly surreal, brooding nature of Thelma, and its underlying allegories. Certain elements and characteristics reminded me of several other great films, such as Enemy (2013), Antichrist (2009), Låt den rätte komma in (2008), The Shining (1980) and Carrie (1976). Furthermore, Thelma's love scenes are among the most sincere and sensual love scenes I've ever witnessed in a film. In my humble opinion, Thelma's only slightly weak spot is its ending, which wasn't the dark conclusion I hoped for, although it didn't ruin the overall impression for me.
