What happened to Maya and her family is a tragedy, and I thought the way the documentary creators brought it was annoying. It felt like form over function, like the director was trying to make a drama movie instead of a documentary. There was too much pseudo-sincere, emotion-inducing music, too many dramatic face close-ups of Maya, too much dramatic staging. It was all too slick and forced.
