Rabid Dogs - Review

Damn, i didn't expect this one to be such a shameless and sleazy exploitation flick. Shot in 1974 but never completed or released before the late 90s, this Mario Bava crime-/abduction thriller is among the most repulsive things i've seen in my life so far, granting none of its villains much in terms of redeeming qualities. These dudes are just capital E evil scumbags with shit for brains and no regard for human life, constantly harrassing and sexually assaulting their female hostage (among other things, but this is clearly their favorite pastime here). Basically this film is just all bad style, bad writing, bad taste. Shocking for the sake of it without having even the slightest semblance of a point to make. It tells a lot when, after having spent 90 claustrophobic minutes in a getaway car with five protagonists, you didn't learn a single thing about them other than they're evil scumbags and want to fuck. And the woman? She's there because the film needs a victim, i guess. It goes without saying that as mindless entertainment, this film falls flat too (in case anybody gets a thrill out of this, i wonder what that says about them as a person), being one of the most miserable and depressing viewing experiences i've had in in my life. In that regard, the film is kinda successful, achieving exactly what it sets out to do. Just like... Bravo, i hated every second of it. Hardened exploitation buffs will probably still come to the defense of this flick, arguing that it's totally one of a kind. Well, it sure is and i hope there will never be another one. Fuck this movie.
