a review of 续命之徒：绝命毒师电影

I was a die-hard fan of the Breaking Bad series, up to the end of season 4, when the producers weren't sure if the series would be continued. I think Breaking Bad should have stopped after that season's finale, episode 13 ('Face Off'). It would have been a grandiose open ending, and Walt would have won. The fifth and last season of Breaking Bad felt slightly superfluous, and the 'MacGyverish' final episode disappointed me. It was pleasant to see good old Jesse back in El Camino, and I liked Walt's short cameo, but overall the film felt a bit forced, and both the plot and performances felt a bit bland and uninspired, as if making this film was a contractual obligation. There was also a bit too much comedy to my liking. The balance between grimness and comedy was perfect in the Breaking Bad series. Furthermore, I expected to see at least some enjoyable flashbacks to actual scenes from the series, but those were strikingly absent, probably due to usage rights. Of course there's a big chance now that this film paves the way to a Breaking Bad follow-up featuring Jesse.
