The Shade - Review

Snowdance Independent Film Festival. Decent psychological drama disguised as a thriller/horror flick. Quite confident in style and atmosphere, basically this film works because the drama works and while i can't say i find its protagonists terribly likeable in all their bro-ishness, their portrayal of men unable to confront or even admit to their grief and trauma is convincing and spot-on. What's working less well here are the pretty standard (faux-?) supernatural elements as the whole "creepy naked old woman in your closet as a metaphor for repressed trauma"-schtick strikes me as beyond stale at this point. Nonetheless, a solid debut feature, well worth watching.
