The Warriors (1979)

For a 1979 action film, The Warriors has reasonably survived the test of time, although some of the fights are obviously fake. But The Warriors is more than just some gangs fighting each other. It's a contemporary youth identity statement, like a grim version of West Side Story. The gang member outfits, the improvised weaponry (baseball bats, pipes, etc.) and the scenery (scarcely lit New York streets, subway stations, fairground) established iconic visuals that were reflected numerous times in 1980s fighting games such as Double Dragon, Final Fight and Streets of Rage, to name a few examples. The great, John Carpenter-like analog synth soundtrack deserves a special mention, and last but not least, Deborah van Valkenburgh is a sight for sore eyes. :)
