a review of 奇妙的家族

The debut feature of korean director Lee Min-jae is still a wildly uneven affair, whose at times meandering plot could have benefited from a tighter script and some tough editing choices. On the other hand, the characters and fucked-up family dynamics are pure comedy gold and when the comedy hits, it hits hard. Most of all, in a field as overcrowded as the zombie comedy subgenre, Zombie for Sale accomplishes the seemingly impossible feat of subverting genre tropes and expectations in this day and age and deriving some fresh blood out what's probably one of the most overdone ideas in contemporary comedy. Far from perfect, yet a lot of fun to be had with this one.
