Through a Glass Darkly (1961)Through a glass darkly is the fifth Bergman film I've seen. I'm an admirer of his cinemat(ograph)ic skills. Wild Strawberries ranks high in my list of all-time favorite films. Through a glass darkly is once again aesthetically impeccable, with skillfully lit, atmospheric black and white cinematography. But I reluctantly have to admit that the story and characters actually bored me a little, causing my involvement to diminish. The slightly dated, dramatic acting style felt like watching a Shakespearean stageplay, which undoubtedly had a different effect on the original audience than it had on the spoiled me in 2019.
