a review of 坂本龙一:终曲

Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda (2017)A touching, melancholic and respectful portrait of an extraordinary man in the winter of his life as a passionate music artist. I've always admired Sakamoto, ever since I saw and heard Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983). I still frequently listen to his piano arrangement of that touching film theme, as well as his beautiful, contemplative soundtrack for The Revenant (2015), among his other works. I was delighted to discover that Sakamoto was also an engaged protestor against human-induced woes such as climate change and warfare / violence. Rest in peace, Mr. Sakamoto. Your spirit will live on in your enlightening music.
