a review of 奇谋妙计五福星

I saw the sequel (My Lucky Stars) first because it was the only one on Criterion Channel. This one is definitely more watchable all the way through. The sex pestery is tempered by the "don't touch my sister" aspect and the fact that she is sometimes in on the joke. Funny how different it is from the sequel. The characterization, suddenly they all grew up in the same orphanage, Sammo Hung's character going from meek and bullied to the leader of the group, pretty sure that one guy is no longer a cop and they never mention it again. Jackie Chan is barely in this but his rollerskating car chase scene is iconic (and completely copied in the Bollywood film Dhoom 2 appparently). It was difficult to find this with subs and the dub I saw had some rude dubbing choices. They did some people dirty. Some very South Parky sounding bad guys. this is fun, recommend it
