Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat (2024)

I think the content of this is great, it's an interesting and important topic. But they've gone so far on the "style" portion that it's difficult to watch for 2 and a half hours. Partner sat down to watch part of it with me and said, "This sounds interesting but this trailer keeps going on forever. When does the documentary start?" the documentary had started 40 minutes ago. And it just goes on like this. The style of putting all the footage in a blender and frenetically switching between it with huge amounts of text for multiple hours is a lot to get through. I had to take a break and re-rent it on Kanopy to see the other half. I also found some of the connections a bit tenuous, the jazz part being promised as the overarching theme, but it really not being so much about these musicians... They've crammed a lot in this thing. But damn. To be clear, I did enjoy it and I will be thinking about a lot of this stuff for a long time and trying to learn more about it. I think it's incredibly relevant right now and many of these things are still happening.
