Sin Nombre (2009)

Sin Nombre is the third great Cary Joji Fukunaga production I've seen, after Jane Eyre and the particularly brilliant True Detective series. Sin Nombre paints a bleak, realistic cinematic portrait of the hopeless lives of many Central Americans, trying to escape the miserable conditions by illegally traveling to the USA on freight trains. At the same time, Sin Nombre tells the equally grim tale of a gang member trying to escape the clutches of his violent gang. But amidst all the gloom there's some hope in the shape of an emerging love story.
