From Boris Karloff’s iconic Monster and the unforgettable imagery that helped define horror cinema to the increasingly sympathetic creature at the heart of the sequel, we’re exploring what makes these films such enduring classics. We discuss their striking production design, pioneering special effects, memorable performances, fascinating themes and the ways they challenged the censors of their day. We also get into the sequel’s bold creative choices, its darker humour, and whether it really does improve on the original. And, of course, we have plenty to say about that iconic Bride! Nearly a century after the original brought Frankenstein’s Monster to life on the big screen, these films remain hugely influential, even if a few elements haven’t aged quite as gracefully.
