本剧展示了孔子周游列国的生命历程，这是不断碰壁的旅程，是完成梦想的不归途，是求“仁”而不得的坎坷路。
乱世，国君昏庸，沉溺女色，问政孔子，却又形同虚设；群臣奸佞独断，勾心斗角。孔子进谏，推行礼制仁政，却屡屡遭拒。宫廷的争斗累及孔子，他被迫奔亡。在危困绝粮的风雪之中，孔子仿佛见到了理想的大同世界......而现实依旧是战争频仍，百姓流离失所。黑暗中，归途里，幽兰操不再是自伤自怜的琴歌，而是任重道远的颂唱。看似归途，大“道”仍在路上...
