Von Michael verlassen, wird Zoret zu einem gebrochenen Mann, schafft es aber in seiner Einsamkeit ein letztes meisterliches Bild zu malen, den Hiob. Die ganze Stadt verneigt sich vor Zorets Genie, doch ausgerechnet Michael fehlt bei der Vernissage.
