O Tao-te Ching é um dos textos mais importantes e mais conhecidos da literatura chinesa, uma obra essencial para quem busca uma vivência espiritual no mundo contemporâneo, no entanto, ela nem sempre é de fácil compreensão. Assim, esta edição do Tao-Te Ching, comentada por Lúcia Helena Galvão, professora de filosofia da Nova Acrópole, chega para apresentar essas sabedorias de forma mais palatável, fruto de uma série de palestras que Lúcia realizou sobre o tema. Segundo ela, a ideia é que se penetre no Tao-Te Ching, desmistificando aquela imagem de "ininteligível" que o livro possui, podendo interpretá-lo e vivenciá-lo.

《道德经》又称《道德真经》《老子》，分“道经”“德经”上下两篇，共八十一章。它不仅是道家（包括道教）代表作，而且还被尊为诸子之首、万经之王。《道德经》虽然只有五千多字，却蕴含着极为丰富的哲学、政治、军事、教育、人生处世等各方面智慧。《道德经》把人放置于大自然这一无限的时空中去探求人与自然、人与人、身与心之间的关系，通过逆向思维，提出了许多为时人所忽略的重大问题。在本体论方面，老子提出了其思想体系中的*top概念“道”和与之密切相关的“德”。“道”是天地间所有规律、真理的总称，是整体，是客观存在；而“德”是指具体事物的规律、本性，是个别，是主观存在。在方法论方面，《道德经》重视辩证地去观察、处理问题，认识到有与无、高与下、前与后、好与坏、善与恶等事物都是在相互对立中才能出现，并由此提出“无为”方能“无不为”的政治主张。《道德经》治国的核心理念是“顺应自然，无为而治”，向往“小国寡民”社会，还提出诸如反对苛政暴敛、保证百姓温饱、维护社会安定等一系列具体的政治措施。《道德经》的人生哲学，主要是引导人们贵柔守雌、和光同尘、知足抱朴，恢复到无知无欲的婴儿状态。

Traditionally attributed to the legendary Old Master, Lao Tzu, the Tao Teh Ching teaches that the qualities of the enlightened sage or ideal ruler are identical with those of the perfected individual.
