Hermann Fuhrmann, chef du service de pathologie d’un grand hôpital et spécialiste des autopsies, a une réputation de clinicien hors pair. Il passe pourtant son temps à rabrouer ses collaborateurs, notamment son ennemi juré, le docteur Böck, qui se prend lui-même pour un dieu. Fuhrmann se verrait bien lui faire endosser une faute professionnelle grave, d’autant qu’il vient d’apprendre que son rival entretient une liaison avec son ex-femme. Pour essayer de remédier au climat de tension, le grand patron de l’hôpital propose d’organiser un dîner à quatre. Il y vient accompagné de sa collègue, le docteur Wehninger. Celle-ci s’est mise dans une situation inconfortable suite au décès de son père, qu’elle cache dans son appartement. Et quand Feli, la fille des Fuhrmann débarque, la confusion est à son comble…
