In the Holy Grail War, seven magi chosen by the Holy Grail itself must summon seven Heroic Spirits to compete for the omnipotent Grail, a magical device that grants the victor any wish they desire. After three inconclusive wars, the fuse has now been lit once again for the fourth time.

As the Fourth Holy Grail War rages on with no clear victor in sight, the remaining Servants and their Masters are called upon by Church supervisor Risei Kotomine, in order to band together and confront an impending threat that could unravel the Grail War and bring about the destruction of Fuyuki City. 参加圣杯戦争的7名由圣杯选出的魔术师被称为御主（マスター，英文Master），与7名被称为从者（サーヴァント，英文Servant）的使魔订定契约。他们是由圣杯选择的七位英灵，被分为七个职阶，以使魔的身份被召唤出来。
