堂本瞬一（森久保祥太郎 配音）拥有着出色的运动天赋，并且有着一颗不服输的好胜之心，这样的他在运动领域里总是遥遥领先，从未尝过败绩。一次偶然中，在一场YOYO比赛里，堂本瞬一遇见了名为北条院（上田祐司 配音）的选手，北条院所展现出的高超的控球技巧让堂本瞬一折服，就这样，堂本瞬一一脚踏入了YOYO的世界之中。
为了参加日本YOYO大赛，堂本瞬一开始了艰苦的训练。这项运动让他结识了许多志同道合的好友，却也令他遇见了水平不相上下的宿敌刚志（远近孝一 配音）。最终，堂本瞬一凭借着过人的实力获得了进入决赛的资格，然而，就在这个节骨眼上，他的YOYO竟然坏了。

He beat him up, but after that, he meets the exceptionally gifted Yoyoer, Seito Hojoin who beat him up because he ridiculed the Yoyo game. So, Shunichi enters Japan`s Yoyo championship to get his revenge from Seito. Throughout This Championship, He earns new Yoyoing Skills and meets powerful rivals.

在未来世纪（Future Century，F.C.）由于地球严重被污染，人类移往宇宙殖民星，建立了新中国、新日本、新美国等殖民星国。各国在地球虽然还存有领土，但已受到严重的忽视。
为了避免战争，各国决定以一场高达擂台赛(Gundam Fight，高达武斗)来决定各殖民星国对地球的统治权。比赛每四年一度，以地球为擂台，每个国家（殖民星）派出一位代表参赛，一对一以高达对战，直至只有一名胜利者。胜利者所属国家可擭得各殖民星国及地球管理权四年，直至另一个国家在下一次高达对决获胜。
而活在地球上的居民，便要忍受在各国代表在对战时所造成的破坏。
故事发生在未来世纪六十年开始，当时正开始第十三届高达擂台赛。故事的主角，来自新日本的code error!，为了追寻盗去以DG细胞三大理论，自我增殖、自我再生、自我进化设计出来的code error!(Devil Gundam)的兄长，决定参加这一次的高达对决，故事就此展开。

该片的宣传口号是“一支吉他就可以拯救地球”，在科幻题材作品中这样的构思和剧情都是比较少见的。以一位而立之年的男性作为主角也颇令看惯了俊男美女的观众感到意外，片中主人公在理想和现实之间挣扎的过程具有很强的真实感。此外，片中的配乐充满摇滚风格，由美式动漫及英文摇滚组成的OP也给人留下了深刻的印象。

《豹头王传说》是栗本薫所著的长篇小说，作品讲述以主人公Guin为中心，在架空的世界、时代中的人们生与死的故事。作品从描写国与国的战争、策略、兴亡到市井人们的欲望、爱情、友情、仇恨等，是一部历史巨篇。小说从1979年9月推出第一卷《豹头的假面》以来，到2008年12月已推出123卷正传、21卷外传，总计发行部数超过2800万册，受到了众多读者的支持。小说在2003年推出英文版，随后再被翻译成德、泰、俄、法等语言，今后还将推出中文版和韩文版。小说还于2000年由柳泽一明作画推出首部改编漫画《七个魔道师》，这次是小说的首次动画化。
动画版由Satelight制作，监督为若林厚史（代表作：《幽游白书》、《火影忍者》），系列构成&剧本为米村正二（代表作：《口袋妖怪》系列、《花田少年史》），角色设定为村田峻治（代表作：《机动警察》剧场版），音乐则是RPG名作《最终幻想》系列的御用作曲家植松伸夫。
故事主角是连自己的出生地都不记得了的豹头战士古因，生于架空的世界，架空的时代，以他为中心，一幕幕的生死在上演。这部有如《三国志》般宏大的背景设定中，国与国之间的连年战争、谋略、兴亡正顺着命运的齿轮在转动，其中交织着宫廷、市井人物间的形形色色人物的野心、妄念、友情、诀别、恋爱等爱憎交织的感情大戏。
