It's Yui Hirasawa's first year in high school, and she's eagerly searching for a club to join. At the same time, Ritsu Tainaka, a drummer, and her friend Mio Akiyama, a bassist, are desperately trying to save the school's light music club, which is about to be disbanded due to lack of members. They manage to recruit Tsumugi Kotobuki to play the keyboard, meaning they only need one more member to get the club running again. The Sakuragoaka Girls' Academy curriculum traditionally focuses on the three "R"s of reading, writing and arithmetic, but Ritsu Tainaka wants to add two more "R"s: Rock and Roll! To do that, however, Ritsu has to save the Light Music Club from being shut down due to little problems like not having any other members or a faculty advisor. After strong-arming her best friend Mio into joining and convincing Tsumugi Kotobuki to make it a trio, Ritsu's would-be rockers are soon only one talented guitarist short of the quartet they need for school approval. It's the final year of high school for Yui (guitar), Ritsu (drums), Mio (bass), and Tsumugi Kotobuki (keyboard), the founding members of the Light Music Club. With the start of the third term, Ayanokouji and his classmates, who have been promoted from Class D to Class C, head off for school camp. They will take part in a special test called "Mixed Training Camp," where all grades are combined. As the name implies, the test is divided by gender, and several groups are made up of mixed classes and graded based on a group basis. They have to cooperate with students from classes with whom they had been competing against each other as enemies to obtain a high score. Above all, they are horrified by the rule that students from groups that fail to reach the borderline will be expelled.
