故事以主角的第一人称进行，“我”（浅沼晋太郎 配音）是京都大学的一名三年级生，原本期待着有一个玫瑰色多姿多彩的大学生活，希望自己能交上飘逸黑长发的漂亮女朋友。然而事与愿违，主人公经历了一场失败的恋爱，身边的朋友也少得可怜。主人公唯一的朋友小津（吉野裕行 配音），长相像一只妖怪，以捉弄情侣为乐。主人公常常唾弃小津，却离不开他。随后主人公认识了师妹明石（坂本真绫 配音），她是个性格冷淡的黑发少女。
正是因为自己当初选择了网球部，才导致大学两年如此失败，于是“我”假想如果自己入学时选择了另外一个社团，会不会经历另外一种截然不同的大学生活呢？本作从平行时空的角度，围绕着主人公重新从大一新生选择社团开始，选择了各种各样不同社团，发展出不一样的青春故事。

When a college dropout stops for a late night bite at a mysterious ramen stand, he crosses paths with a self-proclaimed deity of matrimony. This bizarre meeting sends the young man hurtling through a horrifying flashback to his not-so-glorious college days when the influence of a cruel new friend turned him from a hopeless romantic into a mischievous “black cupid.”

本片根据樱场小春的同名漫画改编，是该系列动画的第四季。

July 1998 - After a group of delinquents is found dead in their hangout place with all their limbs twisted and torn off, Aozaki Touko receives a request to find the murderer and asks Shiki for help. The main suspect is Asagami Fujino; a girl who was the boys' plaything until recently, who Shiki believes to be "one of her kind".

A short, overweight student uses the Neuro Link, an evolution of the Nerve Gear, to escape himself from the reality. But his skills in the virtual world brings him to the attention of Kuroyukihime, a popular student who introduces him to the Brain Burst.

和久隆（阪口大助 配音）、小高胜（保志总一朗 配音）、矢村大一（杉田智和 配音）、半井摩子（井口裕香 配音）等十五名少年少女，正满心希冀的准备迎接即将到来的暑假。就在此时，一位名为可可贝利的神秘男子突然出现，邀请孩子们参加一个电脑游戏。在游戏中，他们将会驾驶着巨大的机器人，和邪恶的外星物种进行战斗。
在半推半就之中，孩子们和可可贝利定下了契约，而契约一旦签订，无论发生了什么，孩子们都不可能放弃这个游戏。然而，让他们没有想到的是，巨大的机器人行动所使用的能源，竟然就是他们的生命，也就是说，无论是失败还是胜利，每一个驾驶员们所要面对的结局只有一个，那就是死亡。

During a summer camp, 15 children, 8 males and 7 females, find a grotto by the sea. Deep within they discover working computers and some electronic equipment, and later the owner, a man called Kokopelli. Kokopelli claimed to be a programmer working on a brand new game, in which a large robot has to defend the Earth against fifteen alien invasions. He persuades the children to test the game and sign a contract. All but one of them signs; barely a moment later they mysteriously awaken on the shore believing what happened was just a dream.
