Nobuko works in Nagasaki, Japan as a midwife. Her son died 3 years earlier from the atomic bomb. On August 9, 1948, her son appears in front of her again. Since that time, Koji appears in front of her and they reminiscence about pleasant times. These happy, but bizarre moments seem eternal.

タクシー運転手の宇佐美浩二（木村拓哉）は、ある日85歳の高野すみれ（倍賞千恵子）を東京・柴又から、神奈川の葉山にある高齢者施設まで送ることになった。すみれは浩二に、「東京の見納めに、いくつか寄ってみたいところがある」と寄り道を依頼する。タクシーで旅を共にするうち次第に心を許したすみれは、自らの壮絶な過去を語り始める。偶然出会った二人の心が、そして人生が大きく動いていくことになる――。

《學校》是山田洋次構思了15年的意念。影片的背景是一所夜間中學，負責教學的是已屆中年的黑井先生。

他本來可以有機會調職到另一家正規學校任教，但他卻拒絕了。又一個學期要過去，在畢業禮即將來臨之前，黑井叫每個學生都以過去一年的日子做題材，寫下一些值得回味的事情。班上的同學，有不同年齡的、不同國藉和背景的，不約而同都發現：歲月雖然匆匆，但箇中悲喜，尤其是黑井的關懷，卻教他們永誌難忘。

本片是山田洋次創作生涯上的另一高峰：七年間已拍了四集，是山田繼《男人之苦》後的第二個成功系列。

Directed by the creator of the Tora-san series, Yamada Yoji, "A Class to Remember" unfolds in a night junior high school on the lower east side of Tokyo. Students from their teens to their sixties are enrolled. One of the most beloved teachers, Kuroi, asks each student to write an essay recalling their experience in the night school. In the midst of the class, a piece of tragic news arrives: Inoda, one of Kuroi's students, has passed away, upon which the whole class starts talking about each other's memory of Inoda. Compassionate and extremely poignant, "A Class to Remember", marks the beginning of another film series for Yamada. So far four installments have been made and all are box office hits.

京都太秦，一个有着上千年悠久历史、至今仍依存大量古迹名胜的城市。在上世纪后半叶，多家电影厂及数不胜数的电影工作者在此留下足迹，驰名海内外的经典名作《罗生门》即诞生于此。电影产业飞速发展，与之配套的商业街也应运而生。然而随着大电影厂相继倒产，太秦早已不复悼念的辉煌。供职于当地大学图书馆的东出京子（海老瀬はな 饰）是商业街洗衣店的女儿，她的青梅竹马梁濑康太（USA 饰）不愿过早继承家里的豆腐店，一心成为名闻全国的搞笑艺人，可是却不断遭受挫折，彼此互有好感的两人也因此磕磕绊绊。在此期间，京子结识了来自东京的交换学者榎大地（田中状太郎 饰）。榎对这个质朴的女孩一见钟情，随即展开了热烈的追求。平静的太秦，略带失落和忧伤的爱情物语悄悄上演……

One day, taxi driver Koji Usami is tasked with driving 85-year-old Sumire Takano from Shibamata, Tokyo to a senior care facility in Hayama, Kanagawa. Sumire asks Koji to make some detours. Gradually opening up to her, Sumire begins to tell the story of her grand past...

Director Ogata discovers a new female star in Koharu Tanaka, who works selling candy at a studio theater and she is given a part as a bit player. After the studio's top leading lady is embroiled in a scandal, Koharu is suddenly thrust into the limelight when she replaces her in a film and gains instant fame and fortune. But the going is not always easy, and she soon seeks help from unexpected quarters.

煤矿工人勇作（高仓健）失手将一名寻衅滋事的流氓打死后，被判刑入狱，在监狱里，他非常想念自己的妻子光枝（倍赏千惠子），却因害怕耽误她的生活和前途，主动提出离婚，并真心实意地劝她改嫁。
刑满释放前，勇作给光枝写了一封信，说如果她还没有与他人结婚，仍在等待着他的归去，就在家门前的旗杆上挂上一块黄手帕，假如他看不到黄手帕，会就此远走他乡。归家途中，患得患失的勇作碰到一对驾车出行的年轻情侣（武田铁矢、桃井薰），搭乘他们的车游转了一些地方，之后，他才鼓足勇气回到家乡。

东京一隅，温柔善良的高野吟子（吉永小百合 饰）独自打理着去世丈夫留下来的药店。过去的20年里，她和婆婆、女儿小春（蒼井優 饰）住在一起，虽颇多艰辛，但日子平淡幸福。如今，女儿将要嫁作人妻，吟子喜悦之余仍不免有所忧虑。原来在丈夫13周年忌辰上，她的弟弟铁郎（笑福亭鹤瓶 饰）醉酒胡闹，惹得亲朋不快。吟子和哥哥庄平（小林稔侍 饰）有意瞒着弟弟，然而得到消息的铁郎依旧欢喜前来，而且照例醉酒闹事。铁郎的举动不仅让家人颜面尽失，也影响了小春的婚姻。此后的日子里，这个年过半百却总也长不大的弟弟成为了姐姐久久无法割舍的牵绊……
本片为日本国宝级导演山田洋次向市川昆致敬之作，受邀参加第60届柏林影展，并荣获电影节特别奖。

男主角ゴウ（泽田）是一个一心痴迷电影、无心顾及家庭的人，年轻时的他（菅田将暉 饰）曾经想成为导演，于是去到剧组干起副导演的活。他当时爱上了在食堂工作的女孩淑子（永野芽郁 饰），还跟放映师テラシン（野田洋次郎 饰）对电影的话题交流甚欢。当ゴウ终于等到了拍电影的机会时，一场事故让电影化为泡影。半个世纪过去后，当初的剧本再次出现，一家人的命运也迎来改变。

The story is about a convict released from prison for an old murder who is thinking about returning to his ex-wife and his former life. If she puts a yellow handkerchief on the window, it would mean that she wants him back at home.

Kuruma Torajiro is discovered looking around Kyoto for someone special to him.

In Shibamata, Tokyo, Tora-san's family prepares for a wedding. Meanwhile, the traveling Tora-san meets an old acqaintance in Iwate Province. Tora-san refuses to drink with him, afraid that the acquaintance, now settled and married, will again become attracted to Tora-san's wandering existence. Tora-san becomes attracted to a female barber, but must break off their relationship so that she too can live a secure life. She instead gets into an abusive relationship with a motorcyclist.

Tora-san, an itinerant peddler who is thrown out of his father's house twenty years before but reconnects with his aunt, uncle and sister Sakura. Tora wreaks some havoc in their lives, like getting drunk and silly at a marriage meeting and ruining Sakura's chance to marry someone, as well as just being a real pain to those around him. There is a sentimental side to him also, and the best way to describe him is that he grows on you.

Tetsuo is a young man living in Tokyo, who falls in love with a deaf-mute factory girl. He has always felt jealous of his college-educated brother, but ultimately wins both the girl and his father's acceptance and support in a touching and refreshing way.

During his travels, Tora-san gets drunk with an old man in Kyoto. Though Tora-san never fully comprehends his importance, the old man is a Living National Treasure ceramist. At his home, Tora-san makes a good impression on the old man's maid, who apparently falls in love with Tora-san.

Tora-san leaves Shibamata once again after an argument with his family and finds himself at an inn where he meets Tomekichi, a young man who looks up to Tora-san.

Set in 19th Century Japan a young samurai who finds himself in love with a farm girl leaves his home to begin a new life. He has to take stock of his new life when he is put to the test and ordered to kill a traitor who just happens to be his dearest friend.

After a friend and business colleague dies, Tora-san visits the man's daughter, then takes her to Tokyo so she can study for a night school exam.

After a chance encounter with Hiroshi's father on a bus, Tora decides to get serious and reflect on the mortality of man. His plans are derailed when a beautiful lady starts working at Toraya.
