The Picture of Dorian Gray [Book] Goodreads NeoDB Douban
author: Oscar Wilde publishing house: Random House: Modern Library 2004 - 6
Oscar Wilde’s only novel is the dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty.

In this celebrated work Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind.

Cages [Book] NeoDB Douban
author: Dave McKean publishing house: Nantier Beall Minoustchine Publishing 2002 - 4
One of the all-time best and most highly acclaimed graphic novels ever is now, finally, back in print! The first print was a quick sell-out from Kitchen Sink before they disappeared. Dave McKean, famous for Arkham Asylum and his covers for Sandman, presents a highly allegorical tale of the dwellers of an apartment building. They each have their own lives, their own takes on life and these intertwine and relate inevitably to each other in ways that make life¹s mystery. Running in parallel lines or tangentially, the differing lives each have their own tale to tell under the magic spin of McKean¹s brilliant imagery and story-telling. It¹s about a blocked painter, a controversial novelist and a wise musician. It may be about God, about jazz, about sex, but also about creativity and artistic fulfillment. A seminal work that proved, rather refreshingly without artifice, how thought-provoking comic art can be.

Signal to Noise [Book] Douban NeoDB
author: Neil Gaiman / Dave McKean publishing house: Dark Horse 1992
Originally serialized in The Face, Signal to Noise is the story of a film director dying of cancer. His life's crowning achievement, his greatest film, would have told the story of a European village as the last hour of 999 A.D. approached — the midnight that the villagers were convinced would bring with it Armageddon. Now that story will never be told. But he's still working it out in his head, making a film that no one will ever see. No one but us.

Signal to Noise is a poignant story, rich in humanity, depth, and communications theory. A beautifully designed and printed book, showcasing McKean's stunning artwork and Gaiman's story, Signal to Noise will make you re-evaluate your thinking about the potential of the medium and a book you will be proud to share with your friends. They will thank you for it!
Bahnwärter Thiel [Book] Goodreads Open Library NeoDB
author: Gerhart Hauptmann / David Horrocks (Editor) publishing house: Bristol Classical Press 1998
"Bahnwärter Thiel" (1988), by far the best story ever written by Gerhart Hauptmann, follows the principles of the Naturalist movement in its detailed study of the life and milieu of a humble and apparently unexceptional Prussian railwayman. Yet in its exploitation of symbolism, of techniques sometimes close to Impressionism, and in its subtle use of a changing narrative perspective, this Novelle goes beyond the essentially 'scientific' Naturalist Hauptmann thus succeeds in exploring the complex interaction of suppressed social, psychological, physiological, and religious impulses far better than in any other work of this era.

This new edition has been prepared with the changing needs of the today's learners and students of German in mind. The late S.D. Stirk's scholarly edition of 1952, which also included "Fasching", has seen sterling service, and we are greatly indebted to it. However, by concentrating on just one story, we have been able to offer more linguistic help in the notes and vocabulary, as well as devoting considerably more space in the introduction to detailed comments on characterisation and technique. References to other works and to other periods of Hauptmann's long career as a writer have been kept to a minimum.
Kraut [Book] Open Library NeoDB
author: Peter Pontiac translator: Julio Grande Morales publishing house: Fulgencio Pimentel 2020
Cartoon Animation [Book] NeoDB Goodreads
author: Preston Blair publishing house: Walter Foster Publishing 1994 - 1
In Cartoon Animation, acclaimed cartoon animator Preston Blair shares his vast practical knowledge to explain and demonstrate the many techniques of cartoon animation. By following his lessons, you can make any character—person, animal, or object—come to life through animated movement!

Animation is the process of drawing and photographing a character in successive positions to create lifelike movement. Animators bring life to their drawings, making the viewer believe that the drawings actually think and have feelings. Cartoon Animation was written by an animator to help you learn how to animate. The pioneers of the art of animation learned many lessons, most through trial and error, and it is this body of knowledge that has established the fundamentals of animation. This book will teach you these fundamentals.

Animators must first know how to draw; good drawing is the cornerstone of their success. The animation process, however, involves much more than just good drawing. This book teaches all the other knowledge and skills animators must have. In chapter one, Preston Blair shows how to construct original cartoon characters, developing a character’s shape, personality, features, and mannerisms. The second chapter explains how to create movements such as running, walking, dancing, posing, skipping, strutting, and more. Chapter three discusses the finer points of animating a character, including creating key character poses and in-betweens. Chapter four is all about dialogue, how to create realistic mouth and body movements, and facial expressions while the character is speaking. There are helpful diagrams in this chapter that show mouth positions, along with a thorough explanation of how sounds are made using the throat, tongue, teeth, and lips. Finally, the fifth chapter has clear explanations of a variety of technical topics, including tinting and spacing patterns, background layout drawings, the cartoon storyboard, and the synchronization of camera, background, characters, sound, and music.

Full of expert advice from Preston Blair, as well as helpful drawings and diagrams, Cartoon Animation is a book no animation enthusiast should be without.
