Es la primera temporada de este anime creado por TV Tokyo. El primer episodio "El Corazón de las Cartas" es una adaptación rápida del arco argumental de la Torre de la Muerte de Kaiba que apareció en el manga y fue adaptado de forma más extensa en el anime anterior producido por Toei Animation. Seto Kaiba, el campeón mundial de Duelo de Monstruos, acude a la tienda del abuelo de Yugi Muto en busca de cartas raras cuando encuentra al monstruo "Dragón Blanco de Ojos Azules". Ante el rechazo de su oferta de venta decide conseguir la carta por medios incorrectos, lo que provoca que Yugi acepte su reto y se dirija a su mansión para recuperar la carta de su abuelo.
