Some TV mystery shows to consider for the #TVMysteries watch party (or other similar events) on Mastodon, or maybe just for personal viewing.

Just Watch

  • Legit streams & downloads. Default US, adjust for your country.
  • Some shows without JW link because it would only give me a pop-up window over info for another show. 🤷‍♂️

Re Youtube

  • Due to geolocking, a playlist that looks complete to someone in one country might be up to 95% incomplete to someone somewhere else. Not ideal for global watch parties. The few I've posted are complete for me in Mexico. Your mileage may vary.

Re Internet Archive

  • Videos can be streamed, or downloaded in your browser, or downloaded by BitTorrent.
  • Go to the Download Options section on the page and click Show All to see all the available files. (You might have to navigate into sub-folders to see everything.)
  • Often each video will be available in two versions: different file formats and different file sizes. (E.g. .mkv and .mp4).
  • If downloading by BitTorrent, avoid downloading all the files, just get the ones you want.
  • Personally, I prefer to download in advance, so there are no issues with buffering/delays during the watch party; and the other benefits from using my local media player.

These segments, written and directed by Welles (uncredited), function as stylized narrative framing devices rather than dramatic participation in the stories themselves. The dramatic content of each episode is performed by separate casts and directors, with no continuing characters or serialized narrative, establishing the series as a unified television anthology rather than a collection of standalone films.

director: Robin Chapman actor: Richard Vernon / Denholm Elliott
The Man in Room 17 is a British television series which ran for two seasons in the mid-1960s, produced by the Northern ITV franchise, Granada Television. Key to the series' success was the involvement of writer/producer Robin Chapman.

The show was set in Room 17 of the Department of Social Research, where former wartime agent-turned-criminologist Edwin Oldenshaw solved difficult police cases through theory and discussions with his assistants.

The novelty of the series was that Oldenshaw and his colleagues never needed to leave their office in order to resolve cases, preferring to spend their time playing the Japanese board game of Go. They simply provided their prognosis and left the police to do the cleaning up. Different directors were often appointed to film the Room 17 and outside-world scenes independently, to maintain a sense of distance between the two worlds.
