Endless Sea is a textural, oneiric exploration of the inability to escape captured within the confines of Grand Theft Auto: Andreas.

What happens when you try to perform Shakespeare inside a public lobby in GTA Online, a game space notorious for its aggression and gratuitous violence? You might expect the other players in your server (randomly allocated from anywhere in the world) to respond with heavy weaponry, perhaps a mini SMG, or a compact grenade launcher. And indeed, this is often what happens. Yet occasionally you may come across someone who responds in an entirely unexpected manner ... This work radically appropriates the violent and chaotic world of Grand Theft Auto, and reimagines it as a space for live performance of Shakespeare. It also interrogates what an audience can be and how it can interact with performance.

Multiple storylines and materials collapse and converge to raise questions about what it means to be materially conscious today and the rights of the personal data we release.

Beginning with footage of sea birds in flight, the film image is then optically scanned and transformed by the computer. The geometric overlay on live random motion has the effect of creating new depth, a third dimension. Our perception of the birds’ forms and movements is heightened by the abstract pattern outlining them.

Unable to adapt to ever-accelerating technological developments and cultural paradigm shifts, the Global Ministry of Education transferred the creation of its educational softwares to the leader of Artificial Intelligence, Alphabet. The objectives: maintaining aesthetic and lexical relevance to keep the youth interested in learning while preparing them for the current and upcoming crisis (increasing atmospheric temperature and bacteriological terrorist attacks from the Third World Axis, for instance). The AI unfortunately sent an entire generation in disarray, leading children to severe mental illnesses and violent antisocial tendencies.

The video-images are constructed out of nothing but the image created by feedback (I turned a high-end camera on a screen that was showing, in real time, what I was filming, creating a feedback loop). Then I glitched the video by changing its format and subsequently exporting it into animated gifs. I (minimalistically) edited the video in Quicktime. Then I sent the file to Extraboy, who composed music for the video. The composing process started with a hand held world radio. Extraboy scanned through frequencies and experimented with holding the radio in different parts of the room while touching different objects. Eventually he got the radio to oscillate noise in the tempo that he perceived in the video. The added synthesizer sounds were played live to further build on the non-digital sound and rhythm. This was later contrasted with drums which were digitally synthesized and processed through effects with a very digital sound to them.
