On the second-to-last day of summer vacation, the four daughters of Education Minister Ann-Margret Lund disappear from a public beach. On its maiden voyage, a newly launched ship with fifteen hundred passengers on board disappears.
The girls' three classmates do not give up the investigation even twenty years later. The world is disappearing, but the hope of finding the Lund children is not.
