This book by an urban Zen Buddhist monk teaches that we are always enlightened, and we must take responsibility for realising our enlightenment, seeing through our false sense of self and meeting our true nature. It invites us to meet life on its own terms, wherever we are, whoever we are, right now.

This is Zen for real life, in the world of relationships, jobs, dirty dishes, teacups and toilets. Zen is not a system of belief, or a theory about the meaning of life. It is beyond philosophy, beyond religion. It is the gateless gate to freedom from suffering.

This book was previously published in 2011, under the title Kill Your Self. The author says in this edition: "In the years since then, I have learned enough, through education and tragic experience, to no longer stand by a title that could easily be misunderstood. It was published in France as La vie apres l'ego, and so, for this and any future editions, it now has the same title in English."
